Appalachian State vs. LSU 2008 Will Be Tough!
Feb 25th, 2008 by gtull1
The season opener in 2008 for LSU football will be Appalachian State. A lot of people think that Appalachian State will be blown out of Tiger Stadium. Let me tell you right now that this is going to be a close football game, and it won’t be a blow out. Here’s why:
- Appalachian State beat number 5 Michigan in 2007 with a blocked field goal at the end of the game.
- They destroyed Delaware in their bowl game. Delaware had a really good quarterback too (predicted to go number 4 in the NFL draft).
- Appalachian State has a lot of their best players returning this year.
I know LSU will win, but this should actually be a pretty good game. Look for a very close game until halftime, and then LSU pulling away for the win.
What do you think about this football game?

As many close games as we had in 2007, nothing suprises me now!
I hope you’re wrong Alec. I could use a good blowout to start the season off.
I respect the Tigers for taking on ASU; I have seen the Michigan/ASU game film and frankly, if not for a dropped touchdown pass, and several unforced turnovers, this should have been an ASU blowout by greater than 20 points.
The Southern Conference is not to taken lightly, whether Appalachian Football, or Davidson Basketball.
Both LSU and ASU are well coached and used to winning most their games.
This will be a dogfight to the end and I would not bet the farm either way.
This will be a dogfight I would not want to be betting either way.
I think it will be a dogfight Jeff D. This should be a great one, and I sure hope I get to be at Tiger Stadium to watch it.
Thanks for dropping me a comment. Please drop by anytime.
:O)
App has nothing to lose except for injuries. QB for App is tough and smart. What about QB for LSU? APP’s offense will be hitting on all cylinders while LSU will be working out some kinks. Defense may have to step up for LSU early and often. Apps players feel like they can win and won’t be intimidated. You don’t kick butt in the BIG HOUSE and call it luck.
The Apps just don’t have the horses to beat LSU straight up.
That said, It won’t be easy to beat last years DIV II National Champs either. A natural for National TV lets hope it is a close game.
LSU won’t be unprepared and will do all to look like repeat champions. If they hit on all cylinders it will be a blowout.
Don’t get too excited LSU Fans. Here are 3 reasons why your Tigers will lose opening day :
1. You should have lost about 5 games last year. Your team lucked up and if not for more than a few fortunate breaks… they would likely have ended the season closer to .500 than National Champions.
2. You don’t have a proven quarterback… Les Miles kicked Perrilouxx off of the team and now you will be facing a 3-time national champion without a decent quarterback. Our quarterback, Armanti Edwards, will be your worst nightmare as well… If you fear Tim Tebow… Imagine him 200-fold. Armanti runs a 4.3 second 40, he completes over 70% of his passes and has rushed for over 1500 yards and thrown for over 2000 yards each of his first 2 seasons (BTW… He Missed 4 games last year).
3. Jerry Moore is a much better coach than Les Miles. Appalachian State does not leave Boone expecting to lose. They route whoever they play no matter what stage it is on. As someone above stated… We should have beaten Michigan by well over 20-25 points if not for a few mishaps. Our defense is proven… and even though you play in the “SEC” which is allegedly “The best football conference in America”… we will run right past you in every faucet of the game. LSU benefits from a weaker schedule (Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Auburn are in no way close to the SEC East teams of Georgia, Florida, or even South Carolina). You guys are weak and have never faced a team remotely similar to us. We have a quarterback who is like Michael Vick with Peyton Manning’s arm, wide receivers who are faster, bigger, and stronger than anyone who has recently came out of the SEC, and a defense that doesn’t just go for the tackle… we go for the kill, we will bang you up, frustrate you, and we take no prisoners.
Feel free to email me with your comments. If anyone wants to place a bet as well… I have LSU as a 7.5 point underdog to Appalachian State. Think carefully about what I have said before putting up the house in this one…. because on August 30th you will be in shock as Death Valley will be silent.
first off ASU doesn’t play bowl games, in the FCS we play 4 games to decide the champion. i have nothing but respect for LSU, i have cheered for them on many occasions, but give us the credit we deserve. unless LSU fans suffer from memory loss they should remember our 2005 squad traveled to baton rouge. yes, we lost that one by 24, but the score doesn’t elude to the fact that we held RUSSELL’s offense to only 14 points after 3 quarters. i think i have to add that those same guys won us our first championship, and we have only gotten better. despite what any Michigan bum tells you and what you think you saw that game was no fluke. here at Appalachian we play with more heart and determination than most conferences combined in the BCS.
i know that the game will be a great one, and i am making the drive down from Boone. See ya on Saturday boys. GO NEERS!
I’m an ASU fan and would like to thank you for respecting our game vs LSU. MU only laughed and asked where Boone was… I guess they know now
I look forward to a good game. ASU kept the LSU game real close 3/4 of the game a few years ago. Perhaps this year we can keep it close for 4/4 of the game.
App State is going to beat that ass!!
#1 VS #1 === deserves the Hype and should prove to be a Great Game — looking forward to being there, to raise ‘hell’ fpr App !!
LSU has absolutely nothing to gain and everything to lose. Do you think Lloyd even watched tape to prepare for last years fiasco in Michigan? I bet Les is thinking, “O.K., we are supposed to win this one, now how?” So, he goes and watches tape,…so now what? Sure LSU has all the greatest talent, quick, agile, tough and all the fans are thinking we can’t lose to APP, no way, we are going to win this one, but when you create doubt, anything is possible. An athlete is an athlete-no matter how you slice it. Our coaches at App State, like LSU, spend the time to find diamonds in the rough everywhere, like in Greenwood, S.C. The ones LSU will soon learn wear a Fat “A” on their helmet and scared of NO ONE. Jerry will put the best on the field as will Les. The speed will be stifling on both ends of the football. Trust that. Les is well aware of what we are capable of, as is the LSU Booster of what is at stake. I hope for LSU’s sake they don’t treat Les the same as they did Lloyd. Oddly enough, still No one except for the tride and true App State fan is really giving us a chance. As most won’t admit, I think in the back of their mind they are saying, “well LSU really should win. I hope it is close, cause it will be a really good game for T.V.” Forget that Crap. If the Bayou Bengals are not prepared or if they are over prepared, their will be a Home Grown Hillbilly Redneck Ass Whoppin’ waiting right there on that Tiger Eye. I read an article in Michigan after the debacle and went soemthing like this, “IF YOU WANT A CUPCAKE, EAT A CUPCAKE, DON’T CHEW ON GLASS AND TELL YOURSELF IT IS A CUPCAKE.” We have done our homework and hope you will do yours. You have our respect and expect the same in return. Why would ESPN and ABC pit these two against each other when they were supposed to play in 2010 if this wasn’t a matchup for the ages. Two D-I Champions, Head to Head, Mano y Mano. I would like for one, just one, sports announcer with some creditentials and the peaches to take the heat, to simply lay it all out and say, “App will win this game and stand by it!” Hope your ready for a wild ride LSU. It could get nasty early. Please remember it is Gold and Black, not Purple and it is spelled BOONE, N.C. Google US, so you don’t make the same mistake as Michigan.

GO NEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoop that ass!
WHATEVER…..
Josh B. Luuuv your enthusiasm, but….get real, man. Those games u think we shoulda lost last year were for the most part, come-from-behind wins that were the result of TOUGHNESS, GRIT, AND AN UNCEASING DETERMINATION TO WIN! C-ya on the field!
GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!
I think this is going to be the best game in college football on Aug. 30.
Some mentioned above about App State being a D-II school and it is not. It, too, is a D-I school that plays in the FCS division.
LSU will have to figure out its offense because App will come at them with speed and determination. App State will have its hands full defensively trying to stop LSU.
If speed determines this games outcome I will give the game to APP STATE…even strength determines its outcome then it is LSU’s game.
AB….Edwards over Flynn
Defense LSU over App
Offense App over LSU
Determination and Heart goes to APP
LSU has home field advantage
I predit this game to be LSU 31- APP 24
Mike, I love your breakdown there, good stuff. However, I have to disagree with your final score. I’m gonna say App State 34, LSU 28, just because 34 seems to be a lucky number for my ‘Neers. Looking forward to making the trip down to Baton Rouge to cheer for the ‘Neers!
GO APP!!!
You can watch film of the Michigan game all day long, however you truly cannot appreciate Armanti Edwards until you see him live. Without a doubt, he will be one of the fastest, if not the fastest player LSU will face this year. He has a whole corps of receivers to throw to. They are fast and pretty decent sized. There is a stable of running backs including a VaTech transfer that may the fastest on the team. Pierre Banks will be flat out wicked on the defensive side of the ball. LSU has their work cut out and had better prepare thoroughly. It will not be easy. I cannot wait to be there and witness it myself. Go Apps.
you app st fans have heart,we love that in baton rouge.ohio st thought they had heart , well we know the out come there, you guys did good against michigan, but were not michagan , we are who you have been warned about since you were kids, remember,we wait to welcome you to death valley mike the tiger waits to welcome you and the earth tremors wait to welcome you,you havent seen nothing to you been to lsu there all your worst night mares do come true now i leave you with these last two words TIGER BAIT, go tigers from biggest fan living in mobile alabama
oh and hey mike this coonass is taking all bets on this one i got lsu yall got any balls to make them bets dont just say it do it,theres nothing wrong with fresh tiger bait, and a little extra for me in my pocket,251 583 3300 heres my number to any takers on this one
From what I have read we obviously have your attention and things will not be taken lightly, given the Michigan debacle. LSU, you will have your chance at the best team in the country.
Watch all the tape you want. It will be nasty right out of the gate. If you think things will be easy and you think we will give you easy reads, check yourself. Think this through. What if we do the so called impossible, your season is over and the BCS is upside down again. Be careful.
Everyone has said that LSU will be ready and I am sure you will be ready, thus the reason for the game. Doubt breeds inconsistencies. I hope you don’t lose your quarterback. If the offense is not on the field the it will be a long game and you don’t want to give the Neers a chance at two for two. Good Luck Bengals. See you in 6 days. Can’t wait!
Flyguy
im app fan lived in boone for my whole 17 years, and i see the game coming out being 38-34 but im not saying who wins.
App fans on here remember LSU is a great football team so dont be talking trash to them, but i also dont expect them to talk trash about us.
The Trip for 4 begins August 30,2008
Hope App can pull through.
GOOOO APPS! This will be a great game, hopefully with the same result as the Michigan game. ASU IS #1!!!!
LSU Beware. 62 Yosefs comin to yo town to run yo flatlandin butts off the edge of the earth.
I am not a fan of App St. nor LSU
My prediction for this game is App St. by 10.
Where are all the Mountaineer fans?
I will give you guys some props. It takes real grit to come to Tigertown and play with heart and intensity, and it seems your team was earnest today. I like that coach, too. But a healthy LSU team with or w/o a seasoned QB is still a HEALTHY LSU team! They are deep in talent, long on speed and athleticism, and they DO have a very talented experienced Coach. What seems to be a key to me in the game today was that our O-Line and our D-Line are truly each in the top 5 of the college fb teams. I believe they say that games are won/lost in the trenches…
I also believe that App State will again make a run for the champ game in their division. I see some real substance in watching A.Edwards-(QB); he just can’t play vs a healthy LSU team any more! Good Luck to the ‘Neers from here on out.

By the Way
I am a HUGE LSU football Freak-I didn’t mention that out front. In case anyone reading didn’t know, my opinion comes from that perspective!!
GEAUX TIGERS, can’t wait for the rest of 08-
